Ladakh is a land like no other. Bound by two of the world's mightiest mountain ranges, the Great Himalaya and the Karakoram, Ladakh is renowned for its remote mountain beauty and Buddhist culture. It is a land of snow capped peaks, translucent lakes, barren terrain and mystic culture. Seekers have wandered the vast and magical landscape for centuries.
Redback Travels offers an engaging firsthand taste of the very practices yogis have been mastering throughout the ages. This tour is designed for the spiritual adventurer seeking to explore an untouched people and environment. It is for the pilgrim who understands that going outward might actually be going in.
The first days of the trip are spent in and around Leh, the capital of Ladakh. We will acclimate to the high altitude (11,000ft) by visiting various monasteries perched precariously alongside the mountains. For the more adventurous, we offer a relatively tame (class III) river rafting adventure to get a bird's eye view of the gorgeous river and surroundings. We will explore and meditate like the wise old sages in a cave and participate in morning puja with the monks.
On day 7, our trek begins...
Wake up to steaming cups of cleansing herbal teas delivered to your tent door. Inhale the crisp mountain air and absorb the awesome beauty of the vistas as you step outside your cozy tent to join your fellow companions for morning yoga and meditation. Warm up with sun salutations looking out at the dramatic Ladakhi snow capped peaks. Enjoy delicately cooked, delicious, and nutritious meals which give you strength for the day of hiking through some of the most spectacular landscapes in the world.
Walking distances have been tailored in order to keep each day open enough to have space for yoga, meditation and discussion. As always, our friendly and supportive guides will be integral in making your journey a once in a lifetime experience. Lani will lead daily yoga classes before the day's activities unfold.
And no trip to India would be complete without a trip to the magnificent Taj Mahal. Upon arrival back in Delhi (barring inclement weather in Leh), we will drive to Agra to visit the Agra Fort. Then the following morning we will view the Taj at sunset when it is quiet and the most beautiful.
