Yoga & Trekking in Kashmir and Ladakh
August 29 – September 14, 2009
$4295

(Cost includes all meals, ground transportation, transport from airport, lodging, park entrance fees, guides, domestic airfare)

Gorgeous Kashmir is back and safe for travel! We'll begin our trip on a houseboat in Srinigar, floating on the famous Dal Lake, where we'll enjoy lunch and delivery shopping. From there, we¹ll drive two hours to a small rural village known as Pahalgam, or The Shepherd¹s Valley. There you'll choose between playing golf on 18 hole course, day hiking and river rafting. We¹ll then begin our amazing 7 day trek. As our local guide Gulzar says, "The only thing you need to bringis your camera and your shoes!² Each day we¹ll wake up with an invigorating morning yoga session followed by 4-5 hours of hiking to breathtaking glaciers, waterfalls and lakes. We'll loop back to Pahalgam where we¹ll begin our gorgeous two day journey by jeep to Leh, the capital city of Ladakh. There we'll explore various Buddhist monasteries and learn about their culture. Activities here will include a cooking class, river rafting, hiking and shopping. We'll also visit a handicraft village where we'll have a firsthand opportunity to see their trade and support their economy. From Leh, we¹ll fly back to Delhi to visit Gandhi¹s assassination site and do any last minute shopping before heading home.

Physical Requirements

Due to the altitude, mountainous trekking and morning yoga classes, it will be a physically challenging trip. We will not be hiking with heavy weight but will be hiking consistently over a 7 day period so make sure to walk several days in a row as part of your training. We will be camping at each place for 2 nights so there will be opportunities to take a rest day if necessary. Make sure you BREAK IN YOUR BOOTS/SHOES PRIOR TO THE TRIP! Prior yoga experience is necessary. For more information see Before You Go.
